Finding Joy in My WIPs

The November Bringing Joy KAL is getting going over on The Knitalong Hub, and I’ve been really enjoying seeing people plan joyful projects to see them through this month.

In usual times, a new KAL (especially one centred on bringing joy) would be the perfect excuse for me to cast on a brand new project. I absolutely love the thrill of putting together yarn and pattern and embarking on something new — and I certainly have a very long mental queue of projects I want to start rattling around in my head!

At the moment though, I’m finding a lot of comfort and joy in sticking with projects already on the needles. After suffering a bit of neglect the past six weeks, my Conviviality Cardigan has worked its way up to the top of my WIP pile. Though my rows are now long and progress is a bit hard to see, I’m finding lots of pleasure in patiently plodding along with it. It’s the perfect TV knitting — it has been an excellent companion for both Strictly Come Dancing (a show where celebrities learn to ballroom dance, for non-UK readers) and the Great British Bake Off — but the front lace panels serve as a nice reminder that the body is slowly, but surely, growing.

It might not look like it’s grown much since I last posted about it, but that’s okay … it’s slowly gaining ground.

I’m not sure if it’s a reaction to the reality of less daily knitting time or to the state of the world (or, the most likely answer, a combination of both), but I am finding out-of-character satisfaction in my nearly monogamous knitting. There’s something soothing in practising patience, knitting on and trusting that even if it’s not so obvious, progress is happening, and I will hopefully be swishing about in my cheery Conviviality Cardigan before the year is out.

And when I do need a slight change of pace (because let’s be honest, I’m not going to become a completely monogamous knitter overnight), I’ve got these beauties that are not far off finishing as well. If this Fab Funky Fibres Trolls World Tour colourway isn’t joyful, I don’t know what is!

I hope that, wherever you are, you’re finding comfort and joy in knitting at the moment too — I’d love to hear about it in the comments or over in the November Bringing Joy Knitalong thread!
