Three Reasons To Love the Hey BrownBerry Podcast
Chances are, if you’re a fan of knitting podcasts, you already watch Confident Knitting designer Marceline Smith’s popular Hey BrownBerry show — she’s been podcasting for five years! But perhaps you’ve not dived into the (vast) podcast waters. Or maybe, like me, you rarely get a moment to enjoy a knitting podcast and, when you do, don’t know where to begin … there are just so many! No matter the reason, if you’ve not checked out the Hey BrownBerry podcast recently or ever, I’m going to suggest you rectify that immediately. Here’s why!
It’s welcoming. In her episodes, Marce welcomes you into her craft space and gives you peeks into some of her many making pursuits. She’s so warm, so welcoming, and so conversational that it really feels like you’ve gone over to her craft room for a chat. Evoking that feeling of shared community online can be quite difficult, and I think Marce manages it really well. Watching an episode feels like being part of a conversation, rather than just listening to one.
It’s gentle. I love the gentle pace of this podcast. From the quiet excitement of Marce announcing “it’s podcast day” to watching her spin, dye, or spend time outside and hearing her reflect on what she’s making, it’s just all so soothing. Just the sort of thing I want to watch if I have a quiet moment with my needles.
It’s inspirational. Marce is an avid knitter and designer, but she also practises many other crafts: spinning, dyeing, sewing, and it’s really inspiring to get glimpses into her rich making practice. For every episode I’ve watched, I’ve come away wanting to try a new pattern or yarn, or with a tip to improve my knitting or with some drive and courage to try something new in my own making. Wonderful!
I’m so happy I’ve had a few moments recently to really enjoy Marce’s warm podcast … I’m looking forward to diving deeper into her podcast archives. You can find her podcast over on her YouTube channel. She’s also on Instagram as heybrownberry, and she’s got a collection of beautiful accessory patterns for sale in her Etsy or Ravelry online shops. And of course if you’d like to cast on for her October Confident Knitting pattern, the Terrain Mitts, it’s never too late to join the fun! You’ll find Confident Knitting in the online shop, and you can pick up an Autumn kit with all the yarn you’ll need for Marce’s mitts, as well as the September and November projects.
