Julia Farwell-Clay’s Heartgyle Socks, this month’s Boost Your Knitting pattern, give so much scope for playing with colour. I’ve been having more fun than I should playing with combinations of Coop Knits Socks Yeah! 4ply (the heathered shades are just so fun to mix and match) … and now I want to knit about a half a dozen pairs!

Julia’s cool blue sample use lovely Larimar for the main colour, with Topaz toes, heels, and cuffs and punchy Ruby for a classic preppy feel. Jen’s opted for a soft and sweet colour combination, using soft gray Danburite for the main colour, with accents of rosy Ammolite and plummy Sugilite, for a pair that I think would be very at home in a summertime English garden!

With 27 shades of Socks Yeah! in the shop, the combinations are virtually endless … here are a few of them! (You’ll need two skeins of your main colour, and one each of two contrasts)
For a very classic feel, how about Quartz with Almandine and Melanite:

Swapping the Melanite for Malachite would make for a very festive pair, come December:
Deck the halls …
I personally love a pair of really BRIGHT socks (it’s like having a fun little secret hidden under your trouser ankle). Popping in Argon and Helium in place of the contrast colours in the sample pair makes for a beyond bright combo that I was really tempted by:
Main colour Larimar has a party with bright red orange and neon!
In the end, I’ve chosen to go with Quartz, Citrine, and Larimar — a colour combination that puts me in mind of a summer treat: orange creamsicles by the sea!
