Hello knitters and welcome to December, the most knitterful time of the year (at least for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere!). The start of this month means it’s time for the release of the very first pattern from our Something To Knit Together Winter Edition collection — say hello to this cosy little number, the Assembly Scarf (that’s a Ravelry link) by Natalie Warner!
The Assembly Scarf is such a fantastic project for kicking off our Something To Knit Together Winter Edition KAL as it’s got something for everyone. If you’re new to cables, this is the perfect canvas for trying them out — the scarf features two lovely, straightforward rope cables, and we’ve got tutorials for working both of them, with or without a cable needle. Which neatly brings me to my next point — if you’re familiar with cables, but haven’t tried working them without a cable needle, this is the perfect project to give it a go. And no matter your skill level, I think you’ll find plenty of rhythmic, meditative knitting in this scarf. The cables’ steady progress and regular basket weave offer up great potato chip knitting — just one more repeat! — without being too taxing. As Natalie mentioned in her interview last week, she’s really mindful of building in plenty of ‘rest’ rows. Many of the rows here are plain knitting, and, on balance, there’s not all that much purling to be done.
The result is a classic and unfussy scarf with just the right amount of detail that will keep you or a loved one snuggly and warm for years to come. We think this would be a perfect gift for anyone on your list. It works up surprisingly quickly in our Something To Knit With Aran yarn, so with some concentrated knitting, you could have it wrapped and under the tree just in time for Christmas. (And, if it’s not quite done in time, let’s be honest — giving someone a handknit can be an occasion in and of itself!)
The scarf measures a generous 26cm [10¼in] wide x 200cm [78¾in] long and takes eight 50 gram skeins of our Something To Knit With Aran yarn — it’s shown here in Sky … I love how this icy pale blue pairs with a grey coat! Don’t forget, if you’ve already purchased your eBook and are planning to buy yarn for the project, your welcome pack contains a discount code for you!
The release of the Assembly Scarf also marks the start of our Something To Knit Together Winter Edition Knitalong. To join in with the knitalong, head over to The Knitalong Hub (there’s a link in the navigation bar both on our website and in our shop) and post a photo in the Assembly Scarf Knitalong topic, along with the word S2KTWinter (that allows us to draw prizes). We’ll be knitting, chatting and cheering each other on over December and January (as well as awarding prizes!) — we’d love to see you there!
So knitters, assemble with knitting needles to hand, and let’s knit something together! And if you’d like to wrap yourself or a loved one in an Assembly Scarf, but haven’t signed up for the Something To Knit Together Winter Edition yet, well, what are you waiting for? When you sign up, you’ll get the Assembly Scarf + the accompanying tutorial delivered to your inbox, and four more patterns (two more accessories and a garment in cardigan and sweater versions) released across December and January — you’ll find full details on the product page. We’ve also got yarn kits that offer big savings on buying the yarn for projects individually: the Knit Together Everything Kit and Knit Together Accessories Kit include all the yarn you’ll need for the Assembly Scarf, while the Taster Kit has yarn for the two smaller accessories from the collection. All three kit options also include free worldwide shipping.
