Earlier than anticipated, as we have another exciting launch tomorrow!
Are you ready for October’s Confident Knitting project? It’s the Terrain Mitts by Marceline Smith, and oh, do I think you’re going to enjoy knitting them! These cosy mitts are just the ticket for chilly wind and shortening days. And the best part? They look a lot more complicated to work than they actually are, thanks to the cleverness of this month’s featured technique, mosaic knitting!
With the Terrain Mitts, Marceline has created snug-fitting hand warmers that are as fun to knit as they are cosy to wear. The three-colour mosaic pattern of the mitts’ body is framed by generous ribbing at the cuff, hand and thumbs – perfect for keeping out autumn’s chill! These mitts begin life at the cuff in the round; a brief dalliance with flat knitting creates the thumb opening before the two sides of the hand are rejoined for the final rows. These will be a great addition to your autumn ensemble, and also make a perfect gift!
The Terrain Mitts are a fantastic canvas for playing with three shades of Jamieson & Smith’s Shetland Supreme or 2ply Jumper Weight, with no stranding required! Mosaic knitting uses strategically slipped stitches to create stunning two-colour patterns while never requiring you to knit with more than one yarn. Choose three natural shades of Jamieson & Smith’s Shetland Supreme 2ply Jumper Weight (just one 50g skein of each colour will cover you for all sizes or pick a trio of colours from J&S’s 2ply Jumper Weight rainbow – you’ll need up to two balls in each colour, depending on the size you make. Or grab a Confident Knitting Autumn Kit and get all the yarn you need for the Terrain Mitts, as well as September’s Moorland Socks and November’s Findhorn Wrap. And, if you’ve not gotten your copy yet, you can of course pick up Confident Knitting and get all twelve patterns + crystal clear stepwise photo tutorials in our online shop.
And of course, we’ll be kicking off our October Confident Knitting knitalong over in The Knitalong Hub tomorrow! If you’re planning to cast on for the Terrain Mitts, or any other project that uses this month’s featured technique, we’d love to see you there!
