We love this month’s featured technique, grab stitches, and it turns out — so do you all! The reception to this month’s technique and accompanying pattern, the Saturnus Cushiosn by Jimenez Joseph, has been glowing over in The Knitalong Hub (you can see some beautiful projects already taking shape). But what if you’re burning to try this more-ish stitch pattern out, but not in need of a cushion? Never fear! Jimi has been experimenting with amazing grab stitch textures for quite some time … let’s have a peek at some of the patterns!

If accessories are your jam, Breakdance might be just the pattern you’re looking for! This pattern for leg warmers and arm warmers makes use of two colours and the terrific, folded grab stitch texture to create two unique accessories.

Or perhaps it’s your shoulders feeling a chill this January? The Terrain Shawl uses grab stitches to create beautiful undulating movement. We just love it!

Or perhaps you’re in the mood for a garment? AllTerrain is a stunning pullover that, again, makes use of long runs of grab stitches to create gentle folds. They play so well with semi-solid yarns!

Or check out this Mella cardigan from Fall 2021 Vogue, a classic cardigan with a folded collar (not available as a single pattern yet, but perhaps you can get you hands on a copy of the magazine … it would be well worth it for this pattern alone!)

The great thing about grab stitches is, once you know how to work them, they’re really versatile! There’s already been some exciting chat about ways to use them, including using them to make a gloriously textured scarf or baby blanket (January and February Confident Knitting mashup project anyone?)
