It’s really hard to believe that we’re over halfway through our year of Confident Knitting! Arnall-Culliford HQ is still a hive of packing industry as we are sending copies all over the world, and you might soon spy it popping up at a festival or yarn shop near you! We will be bringing lots of copies to Yarndale next week. I can’t believe it’s next week already!
There’s still plenty of Confident Knitting fun left (six months’ worth of knitalongs, to be precise… though of course the journey never really ends), but reaching the halfway point and the debut of the print books is certainly a milestone. We thought we’d celebrate it with a few posts looking back at what you lovely Confident Knitters have created and looking forward at what’s to come!
So today, let’s take a trip back a few months, when the Confident Knitting journey had just begun, and see some of the amazing learning that happened in the spring!

Have you knitted this month’s Confident Knitting pattern, Hunter Hammersen’s Evolve Cowl, yet? I cast off and blocked mine last week. Finishing it was bittersweet: while I am thrilled to have a new beautiful cowl to thrown on on a brisk day, I’m missing having it on the needles. The pattern was engaging without being hard, meditative without being mindless. Which I think is actually a good characterisation of much of Hunter’s portfolio and perhaps part of her enormous popularity! They’re always fun, often surprising and very achievable!

Blocking can be a really magical, transformative process, but its’s something that (and you can correct me if I’m wrong) knitters rarely get excited about. It’s consigned, along with swatching, to the list of things one should do when knitting something, much like eating your vegetables or drinking more water.

And, most immediately exciting: I can finally shout about the out-of-this world team of designers whose patterns we’ll be learning with over the coming months! These folks have been so amazing over the last year as we have worked on the book – through one of the most difficult years I can remember. They’ve come up with some really beautiful designs, and I know you’re going to love knitting them! So without further ado, let’s say hello to the team!

Sometimes the hardest part of a project is getting started…
I remember so clearly when I first learned to knit socks, that casting on was actually the trickiest part of the process. The stitches were so small, and the needles were EVERYWHERE, like an out of control hedgehog! Getting going was what slowed me down the most.
Today’s blog post includes a video tutorial on casting on for socks.

We had such a lot of fun with our Spring Into Colour KAL that we’ve decided to keep the momentum going with a brand new knitalong: the Stepping Out KAL (#SteppingOutKAL), a celebration of sock knitting! Read on for details!

I believe that there are new things to be learnt all the time in knitting. It’s what keeps it interesting for me, and that buzz from learning something new is what I thrive on. If I’m lacking in mojo it’s generally a sign that I’m stuck in a rut and need to shake things up.
What could be better to inspire me to try something new, than a new book? Here are five book ideas that I’d be thrilled to unwrap this year, and maybe you would too?

I’ve really enjoyed working on the Apple Twizzle Hat by Thea Colman, this month’s Boost Your Knitting pattern. It’s real potato chip knitting (just one more dip stitch, then I’ll go to bed I swear!) If you’ve also been bitten by the dip stitch bug, here are a few more patterns that feature the technique!
