While knitting the swatches for photography for Something New to Learn About Cables, I got into a rhythm just plugging away in front of the TV. Naturally I got distracted on a regular basis and kept losing my place in the repeat pattern. My instant response was to get in a flap and worry about whether I had to cable, whether I still had rows to go, or whether I'd overshot and would have to rip back a bit. What I really needed, apart from a brain, was this short video to work it out for myself without resorting to making a strangled squeaking sound each time I looked properly at what I was doing.
As ever, so long as you have an easy way to know where you are, there is no need for the panic. I've now moved on to different work knitting in front of the television, this time in an area I have no prior experience. The squeaking has returned and I think it's high time we made some new videos.
